Letters to the Editor
Clean up this mess
Someone wrote not long ago about dying oleander bushes along the freeway. Now I want to call attention to a similar situation just off Golden State Highway and F Street.
Protect our children
I usually want to respond to the more short-sighted, self-righteous drivel that some readers of The Californian representing all stations on the political spectrum regularly ooze ever-abundantly into the Opinion section.
Clinton's 'is' definition
As I watched Bill Clinton's speech at the recent Democratic National Convention, I found one statement particularly ironic.
Get rid of petroleum
I agree with the people who want to have America and the world go green. Apparently their greatest demon is petroleum.
No more jail money
Our current situation could be called, "Enough is enough" no more money for those spoiled prisoners!
Earn re-election
This country was formed by citizens and individuals who were tired of the privileged setting the rules.
Postal staffs helpful
Recently a letter writer praised the folks at the Pegasus post office for helping her with her daughter's wedding invitations.
What would Jesus do?
Your recent editorial justifies animal research because of its essential role in biomedical research.
Good old days recalled
I had a dream last night. My dream was to have a small street car traveling Chester Avenue in the center median. We could leisurely ride and get off to have coffee, breakfast or lunch at different places.
KHSD board drifts
The Kern High School District Board of Trustees has lost its way.
Plant must move
Arvin residents have been plagued by the air pollution, odor and flies produced by Grimmway Enterprise's chicken manure compost facility for many years.
Yes on water, no on rail
I am writing to congratulate two local legislators for representing their districts with outstanding positions in the state assembly and state senate. Assemblywoman Nicole Parra is being harassed by her Democratic colleagues for standing strong on a vote to support a vote on the water bond. Water is the biggest issue this state faces. We have a crisis in the Delta which could cut off the water to 22 million people. Thank you, Nicole.
Animal Control kudos
Since I am a harsh critic of Kern County Animal Control chief Denise Haynes for most of her actions regarding animals in Kern County, in all fairness, I must acknowledge and give kudos to her and her department for their new plan to send animals to Seattle, Wash., for adoption.
Gardasil explained
First we saw the Aug. 17 Parade magazine endorsing Gardasil, followed by a news article quoting a medical journal stating the vaccine is not worth the cost.
Want tax freedom?
The Democratic Party in California has been the tax-and-spend party of record through the years.
Vice presidential
Choice 'stunning'
Support SB 974
Valley residents and elected officials should strongly support SB 974 because it will provide an ongoing source of new funds to clean up dirty diesel trucks, trains and other vehicles that deliver and pick up containers from our busy ports.
Get country back
I recently received a ticket for running a red light. I'm quite sure I took my chances by entering the intersection on a yellow light and it turned red while I was going through the turn. Nevertheless, I found it quite charming that this traffic notice, from the photo enforcement program, arrived from Scottsdale, Ariz.
We've lost morals
How could John Edwards do it? His wife has terminal cancer and he had an affair. Do we have any morals?
Hatcher shouldn't talk
It's a shame that Bill Hatcher threw rocks from a glass house when he wrote a letter to the editor recently. He may like to insult a good man like Beau Woodward and his supporters. However, how about the tens of thousands of dollars he allowed former trustee "Traveling" Sam Thomas to spend on unnecessary junkets?
