Young men watch from the bank of the Kern River between Hart Park and the soccer fields as Kern County Search and Rescue probe the river looking for a missing tuber on Thursday. The man's body was recovered on Friday.

Kern County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team will launch a helicopter search at noon Friday. A full search and rescue effort, with volunteers, will be called Saturday. The reason, officials say, is because drowned bodies float to the top after a certain amount of time under.

The victim, who doesn't know how to swim, was riding an inner tube with two friends when his inner tube popped at about 2:45 p.m. The search became a recovery mission after rescuers did not find the man within an hour and a half after he was reported missing.

The victim identity has not been released, but his family has been notified, officials said.
