Our society has high expectations of our children. After all, our future depends upon them. We know that our children must grow into adaptable adults, able to adjust quickly to ever-changing demands.

As a parent, you want high-quality child care for your children, who often spend more waking hours with their caregivers than they do with you. Finding high-quality child care is not easy. It takes time. What works for your friends and neighbors may not be right for your children.
Who will care for our kids?
Kern County will need to add 20,000 early childhood education spaces by 2015 to meet the requirements of working parents, and prepare children to be successful in school and to become productive citizens of our community.

Luck prevented fatal heart attack
It was really nothing. But fortunately for me it happened where and when it did. My wife Beth and I were 10 minutes into a morning exercise class when I felt a brief burning sensation in my chest. I stopped for a second and it went away. If my wife hadn't been there, I would never have given it a second thought. I resumed the class and it didn't return. Two days later on the treadmill at the gym, it did.
